The taste of the Atlantic combined with the tradition, creativity and innovation of modern chefs

Welcome aboard Atlantic Tastes! A collaborative project between Aveiro and Bodø2024.

The city of Aveiro, in Portugal, and the Nordland region, in Norway, are connected by the Atlantic Ocean — and much more. Both have seaports and share a love for fishing and traditions with a taste for the sea. Their heritage is part of the Atlantic cultural identity.

In the land of fishermen, cod and shellfish are part of traditional cuisine. This knowledge has been passed down for centuries and generations, reinvented by chefs and inspire more than a thousand cod recipes.

It is in the search for more sustainable food production that the cooperation between Aveiro and Bodø takes on a special flavor and spice. Norway is the world’s largest exporter of fish and shellfish, while the Aveiro region is a national reference in the production of “traditional Portuguese cured cod”, preserves, oysters, fleur de sel, seaweed and salicornia.

Atlantic Tastes Menu

Chef Luís Lavrador and Chef Per Theodor Tørrissen

Welcome aboard Atlantic Tastes! A collaborative project between Aveiro and Bodø, European Capitals of Culture 2024.

A gastronomic experience that brings together the flavors of the sea and the talent of two chefs – Luís Lavrador and Per Theodor Tørrissen – to create the Atlantic Tastes Menu.

The Atlantic Ocean connects the city and region of Aveiro to the distant city of Bodø in Norway. So do the stories of cod fishing and maritime traditions, which combine origins with innovation in signature cuisine.

With this European initiative, we want to celebrate what is unique in the world. The products of the sea and the estuary, which are part of the region’s history and sustainability.

They create jobs and new business opportunities. And they attract visitors in search of authentic products and local experiences.
